Superb and Stunning list of the planet's most endangered places (Rating 5 of 5)
This is an extraordinary book. I read it cover to cover. For the first time it brings together the world's most beautiful and threatened natural and cultural places under one cover (selected from the UN's World Heritage list). The book is very clearly laid out, with 101 places grouped into 10 categories of threats (from wars to pollution and climate change). Each site gets a description of why it is wonderful and of why it is threatened, plus dramatic picture and a map to help you understand where it is. There are also fun facts and tidbits about all the sites.
This is a beautiful introduction to the planet's greatest places and why we should care about them, for both arm chair travelers and those concerned about our rapidly changing world. It makes a great gift.
